Teaching a coding agent

Writing the Cefense skill into every coding agent configured in this repository.

4 sections2 min read

cf skill install writes the instructions an agent needs to drive Cefense, in the format each tool actually expects, at the path each tool actually reads.

Install it

Detect and writebash
cf skill install
cf skill install claude cursor
cf skill install --all
cf skill install --global

With no arguments it detects the agents configured in the repository and writes to all of them. If it detects none, it writes AGENTS.md. --all writes for every supported agent whether detected or not. --global writes once for your user rather than for this repository, which only some agents support.

Where it writes

AgentPath
Claude Code.claude/skills/cefense/SKILL.md
Cursor.cursor/rules/cefense.mdc
GitHub Copilot.github/instructions/cefense.instructions.md
Google Antigravity.agents/rules/cefense.md
Windsurf.windsurf/rules/cefense.md
Devin Desktop.devin/rules/cefense.md
Cline and Roo Code.clinerules/cefense.md
Gemini CLIGEMINI.md
Codex, Amp, OpenCode, JulesAGENTS.md

Each file is written in the format that tool expects: skill frontmatter for Claude Code, MDC with alwaysApply: false for Cursor, applyTo for Copilot, a model decision trigger for Windsurf and Devin.

Inspecting and removing

The rest of the commandsbash
cf skill list
cf skill show cursor
cf skill uninstall
cf skill uninstall claude --global

cf skill list shows every supported agent, which are detected here, and what is installed. cf skill show prints the document without writing it anywhere.

These files belong in a commit

They are part of the repository, so everyone's agent gets the same instructions. They are managed files, so hand edits are replaced on the next install. See Agent integration.
